It is celebrated on the 21st of March. It was proclaimed World Poetry day by UNESCO during its 30th session, held in Paris in 1999. In accordance with UNESCO, the main objective of this day is to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and to give endangered languages the opportunity to be a vehicle for artistic communication in their communities.
Poetry is a demonstration of diversity in dialogue. Of the free circulation of ideas through words, through creativity and innovation. Poetry contributes to creative diversity by querying the way we use words and the ways of perceiving and interpreting the social reality. Through the work of associations and through metaphors and its grammar, poetic language is undoubtedly another aspect of dialogue between cultures.
On the other hand, this day aims to promote the teaching of poetry; promote the oral tradition of poetry recitals; support small publishers; create an appealing image of poetry in the media so that it is not considered an antiquated form of art. But rather as a mean of communication that allow communities to transmit their inner values and privileges and allows them to reaffirm their identity; restore the dialogue between poetry and other art forms, such as theatre, dance, music and painting.
