On 8th November, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Spain, Ramiz HASANOV, and his wife, Lala HASANOVA, hosted, in compliance with all Covid-19 health measures, a brilliant reception in the famous Intercontinental Hotel of the Spanish capital, in order to celebrate the Anniversary of Victory Day and Flag Day. Several personalities from the Spanish government attended this event, including Antonio GUTIERREZ LIMONES, President of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs ; Alberto CASERO AVILA, member of the Senate ; Rosa OLAZABAL, President of the Foundation Peace and Cooperation ; Ali EVSEN, President of the EVSEN Group and the EVSEN Foundation ; as well as lawyers, Spanish businessmen and businesswomen, journalists and several members of the Azerbaijani community living in Madrid. 

 

Members of the Azerbaijani Parliament also attended the event, including Samad SEYIDOV, Chairman of the Committee on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations and Sevil MIKAYILOVA, Head of the Azerbaijan-Spain Inter-Parliamentary Working Group. Many foreign ambassadors in Spain honoured the event with their presence, such as Burak AKCAPAR from Turkey, Konstantin ZHIGALOV from Kazakhstan, Shujjat ALI RATHORE from Pakistan, Gazmend BARBULLUSHI from Albania, Sahng-hoon Bahk from Korea. 

 

The celebration began with both national anthems of Azerbaijan and Spain. In his opening speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ramiz HASANOV, emphasised that the year 2020 was written in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan. Under the decisive leadership of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham ALIYEV, who recognized principles and norms of international law, Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity were restored with the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 1993, thus ending the 30-year conflict.

The new realities of the region and the existence of a basis for strengthening peace and stability, which in turn would open a new phase of development in Azerbaijan and the South Caucasus region, were highlighted. Ramiz Hasanov gave special thanks to the soldiers of Azerbaijan and paid tribute to those who gave their lives for the country.

Ambassador Ramiz Hasanov stressed that by decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, the  9th day of November was designated as the Flag of Azerbaijan Day. Today, the flag of Azerbaijan flies with dignity in the countries of the different continents of the world, at the headquarters of international organizations and diplomatic missions.

In their respective speeches, the members of the Azerbaijani Parliament, the President of the Committee on International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations, Samad Seyidov, and the head of the Azerbaijan-Spain Inter-Parliamentary Working Group, Sevil Mikayilova, gave detailed information on inter-parliamentary relations. The ambassador said that all this delicate process was successful thanks to the policy of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, who brought an end to the conflict and brought peace and stability to the region. The event was followed by a concert by Azerbaijani musicians Sabina Arabli, Alakbar Alakbarov and Khayyam Mammadov, who performed the pearls of Azerbaijani mugham; the famous artist Kamran Omarli, Azerbaijani violinist graduated from the music school Reina Sofia and soprano Tahmina Vakilova who performed classical music as well as guitarist Jamil Guliyev who played Spanish music.
