On the 6th of December the Constitution Day in Spain is celebrated, which commemorates its approval by a large part of the Spanish population. A national day which honours the Magna Carta of all the Spaniards, where their rights and obligations, their liberties, the state’s organisation and all their constitutional guarantees are contained.
On the 6th of December in 1978, the referendum to approve the Constitution took place in Spain, where only one simple and direct question was asked; do you approve the Constitution’s project? Around 90% of the Spanish population answered: Yes.
The first time that the Constitution day was celebrated was not in 1978. It was necessary to wait until 1983, year on which the Constitution day was announced as national day, to celebrate this date in which the Spanish society ratified the Constitution in a referendum.
