The International Day of Persons with Disabilities was declared in 1992 by the United Nations General Assembly through resolution 47/3. The objective is to promote the rights and well-being of people with disabilities in all areas of society and development, as well as to raise awareness about their situation in all aspects of political, social, economic and cultural life.
On June 11, 2019, Secretary General António Guterres launched the United Nations Strategy for Disability Inclusion, which is in line with his commitment to make the United Nations an inclusive organization for all.
The United Nations Strategy for Disability Inclusion forms the basis for sustainable and transformative progress towards disability inclusion in all pillars of the United Nations work. With this strategy, the organizations of the UN system reaffirm that the full and complete realization of the human rights of all persons with disabilities is an inalienable, inseparable and indivisible component of all human rights and fundamental freedoms.
